Wait a second...

This past Wednesday afternoon, I wandered into Dr. Finch's office. I had a few things to discuss with her before she leaves for Germany next week and I take over the class. Towards the end of the conversation I realized I should probably talk to her about the paper I'll be writing for her "Religion and the Body" class, so when she asked me what sorts of ideas I had, I popped out with this:

"Well I'm thinking about something that will apply to my thesis...so maybe, um, analyzing the use of Jesus' body in 'The Passion of the Christ.' You know, blood and gore and stuff..."

*cue the screeching tires*

Don't I hate that movie? Doesn't that movie make me bawl and cringe and make snuff film jokes?

It's like my subconscious was playing a mean joke. I didn't even think about that statement before it plopped out of my mouth. While I'm not required to write about that idea by any means, I can't help but wonder why I came up with it. I refuse to admit that I subconsciously like Mel Gibson's divine gore-fest.

I think it'll be an interesting paper topic, so I'll try to stick with it and see where it goes, but I honestly have such a hard time with actually purchasing that movie that my research may involve a little pirating.

Just when you think that you're in control,
Just when you think that you've got a hold,
Just when you get on a roll,
Here it goes, here it goes, here it goes again.

Lindsey, if you're up for the gore, you may want to do some studying of the book of Leviticus and the Laws surrounding the blood sacrifice of animals. The shedding of blood and the use of blood in the atonement of sin was very significant and is a vital (strange word to use here, I know) part of the crucifixion of Jesus.

Should make for a good thesis...I'd love to read it when you're finished.

I think that will be an interesting paper topic. I want to know, if you do write about it, what conclusions you drew from it!

That said, I think I would have to be paid to watch that movie again. I just had to watch it for a class (yet again) a couple weeks ago.

If I were in town I would let you borrow my copy of it, but since I'm not...lol (My dad the preacher of course has the movie.)

Dealing with a deformed child is heartbreaking. I found a birth injury attorney who understood my pain and was able to get the help that my family needed so desperately.
