Mini-Photo Blog: Two Reasons

Here are two big reasons why I love my family.

Reason #1: My grandparents kick ass.

Me-Me and Grandaddy- Staying married for 60 years and still being in love and each other's best friend is pretty amazing. (Me-Me swears they were married in the second grade!) And while we may not always agree on our politics, they've done some really great things with their lives- fighting in a world war, surviving the Depression in the Dust Bowl, raising a couple of great kids and grandchildren and oh yeah...that thing called a "power hour" that Me-Me keeps telling me about.

Grandma and Grandpa- Having been married almost 51 years and raising the real life equivalent of The Family Circus, Grandma and Grandpa Arnold kick ass as well. While I haven't heard any crazy drinking stories from either of them, Grandpa served in Korea and Grandma is the ultimate example of hospitality and service, holding a spot on the school board and volunteering with the church. You will never go hungry or hug-less at either grandparent's house, and that I love.

I hope I can have a marriage as successful and strong as theirs are some day.

Reason #2: My parents kick ass. If ever in my childhood I screamed "I hate you" and slammed the door to my room, I'm sorry. I'm realizing more and more lately how nice it is to have two loving, supporting parents who will embrace your new crazy hobbies (derby) or eating habits, pick up the phone when you call past 11:00 crying over a boy, listen to your newest religion/philosophy phase as it comes pouring out of your mouth the minute you step in the door, support you when you decide to transfer schools (again), do their best to make the new house feel like home and all the while never lose their sense of humor or their ability to have fun with us kids.

Thanks Mom and Dad. I love you.
