Art is in the eye of the beholder...right?

I am so not an artist, nor will I ever claim to be.

Having said that, tonight I tried my hand at painting. Since my plans for this week sorta got...dumped, I picked up some cheap paint, brushes and canvases at Michael's. I am going to need some art for my room in Springfield, so I thought it might be fun to make it myself.

This first one I made while watching the TV remake of "Andromeda Strain" (jury's still out on that one). It's my favorite flower, my favorite colors and almost turned out okay.

If I had to psychologically analyze the individual who made this painting, I'd say they were a control freak who is just a little stressed out. :-)

I had two more canvases left, so I painted one black and started conceptualizing this blooming lotus emanating light and beauty...blah blah blah I was setting myself up for failure. In a moment of frustration, I went all abstract expressionist on the canvas with some coral paint. What followed was a three minute and twenty four second release set to Spoon's "The Underdog" which just happened to be on my iTunes at the time.

Now it's no Jackson Pollock, I'll be the first to admit. And given the colors I had on hand, it wound up looking like an early nineties sneaker ad. But it was an experiment in letting go and not being so uptight.

I might keep them...I might paint over them, we'll see. It was really enjoyable though. Yeah that's all I had.

Totally early '90s sneaker ad. Which is not a bad thing.

The daisy one is awesome.

I heard about the Andromeda Strain remake, but I'm such a fan of the original I didn't even go there. Man, every time the old one is on TV I watch it from start (or whenever I find out it's on) to finish. And I love every minute of it. It's like a flashback to eighth grade English.

See you Wednesday!

hilarious. I did a pollock-esque one once, I convinced my western civ instructor to let me and two friends get drunk and paint in order to explore our Dionysian sides a la Nietzche.

This is a great post for anyone that needs help with finding legal advice. I found a malpractice attorney in the Los Angeles area that helped me get to the bottom of my civil suit.
